Table Stakes

Five-minute icebreakers for the start of any meeting.

House rules

  1. 1

Deal a room. You're the dealer, so you pick the games.

  2. 2

Paste the link in the call. Everyone opens it, picks a name and a face, and sits down.

  3. 3

Play a round or three. Each game takes a few minutes. Chips keep score until the room closes.

The games

Eight of them. The dealer picks; everyone else can nudge.

  • The Spectrum

    2+2 min

    • A statement lands on the table. Drop your chip between Disagree and Agree. It locks in on its own.
    • Chips stay anonymous until everyone's placed. Then the names come out.
    • No chips at stake. Just opinions, finally on the record.
  • Who Said It?

    3+5 min

    • Everyone answers the prompt anonymously.
    • Answers come back one at a time. Pin each one on whoever you think wrote it.
    • +1 for a correct pin. The author gets +1 for every player they fooled.
  • Read the Dial

    3+3 min

    • The psychic sees where the gold band sits on the dial and gives a one-word clue.
    • Everyone else drops a chip where they think the clue points.
    • Your chip scores where it lands: within 5 of the line +4, within 10 +3, within 20 +2, within 30 +1.
    • The psychic gets +1 for each chip within 10, up to +4.
  • Two Truths & a Lie

    3+3 min

    • The storyteller writes two true things about themselves and one lie.
    • Everyone else votes for the lie.
    • +1 for catching it. The storyteller gets +1 for each player fooled.
  • The Hot Seat

    3+2 min

    • One player takes the seat. A question about them comes with four answers.
    • Everyone taps the answer they think fits. The player in the seat taps the true one.
    • +1 for matching them. They get +1 for each match, up to +3.
  • The Acronym Game

    3+4 min

    • Three random letters. Write what they stand for.
    • Everyone votes for their favorite. You can't vote for your own.
    • +1 for every vote your entry gets.
  • Would You Rather

    2+1 min

    • Two options. Pick the one you'd rather.
    • Then bet on which side most of the table picked.
    • +1 if your bet matches the majority. A tie pays nobody.
  • Most Likely To

    3+1 min

    • Who's most likely to…? Vote for anyone at the table except yourself.
    • The player with the most votes gets the title.
    • +1 if you voted with the majority.
